Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the SmileCreator of Naples reveals strong correlations between diabetes, heart disease and strokes with periodontal disease and tells about a simple screening that can determine who is at risk.
Naples, FL, December 23, 2019: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new blog on his website entitled, “93% Of People Who Have Diabetes Also Have Periodontal Disease,” in which Dr. Hernandez also reveals that a high percentage of people with heart disease have periodontal disease too.
Dr. Hernandez states, “93% is a pretty profound number considering the decades that have gone by without someone taking notice of the correlation between periodontal disease and diabetes.” He continues, “Fortunately we have come to the time when the connection has been made. Research now shows us that with advanced periodontal treatment, dental professionals can lower A1c levels as well as most medications without all the terrible side effects.”
According to Dr. Hernandez, “If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, it’s time to schedule an appointment with a dental professional instead of ingesting a lifetime of drugs with side effects.” He further elaborates, “Nonsurgical periodontal treatment improves glycemic control in Type 2 diabetes. And, advanced periodontal treatment has been shown to reduce health complications for patients with diabetes, reducing annual healthcare costs by as much as 25%”.
“It isn’t just diabetes that has a correlation with periodontal disease,” writes Dr. Hernandez adding, “Seventy-five percent of heart attacks and most strokes are known to be caused by plaque rupture and blood clots, not merely the narrowing of arteries.”
