Fillings, Crowns & Bridges

3d render of teeth with different types of dental filling

FILLINGS

Getting a filling is often the best way to restore a tooth back to its normal function and shape. When Dr. Nilo gives you a filling, he first removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cleaned out cavity with a filling material.  By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling also helps prevent further decay.

We have multiple filling materials - gold, porcelain and composite resin. These materials vary in cost, but each patient and their unique needs will be assessed in making the best decision.

Crowns

CROWNS

A dental crown is necessary when a tooth has substantial decay and needs an extra layer of protection that a filling doesn't offer.  The crown is a custom fabricated tooth "crown" that is placed over a tooth -- to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance.

Dr. Nilo then cements the crown into place, fully encasing the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.  We utilize options such as porcelain, gold or solid zirconia for the best looking and strongest appearance.

Bridge

BRIDGES

A bridge can vary in function or design but is most often used to restore use of a missing tooth or teeth.  Bridges are made up of one crown one on each tooth on either side of the gap -- these two anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth -- and a false tooth/teeth in between.  Dental bridges can be supported by either natural teeth or dental implants The bridged tooth/teeth are called pontics and can be made to suit your desire: gold, porcelain, zirconia or a combination of these materials.
