Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of SmileCreator Of Naples And Best-selling Co-author Talk About The Important Role Vitamin D Plays In Oral Health And Immunity.

Naples dentist

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the SmileCreator of Naples, rates Vitamin D as one of the most important elements in promoting excellent oral health and helping strengthen the immune system.

Naples, FL, February 21, 2021: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new blog on his website entitled, “Smile: Vitamin D Gets An A+ For Its Role In Oral Health And Immune System Health.” Dr. Hernandez has been promoting the health benefits of Vitamin D throughout his years of practice and emphasizes its importance during the pandemic.

Dr. Hernandez states, “The more we learn about the role Vitamin D plays in our health, the more we like it. First of all,” he explains, “it’s a vitamin we get from being out in the sunshine.” Then he poses, “Who doesn’t love a beautiful sunny day?”  As Dr. Hernandez explains, “Vitamin D is made from cholesterol in the skin when exposed to sunlight. And don’t be fooled into thinking if you work next to a window that you’re getting your daily dose. It doesn’t work that way. You have to get out in the sun and expose as much skin as you can to the sunlight.”

According to Dr. Hernandez, “Evidence has demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency may place subjects at risk for not only low mineral bone density/osteoporosis and osteopenia but also infectious and chronic inflammatory diseases. Both of those results are significant in terms of oral health and in the ability to fight off infections like COVID-19 and other viruses.”

Correct Misaligned Teeth And Get The Beautiful Smile You Want 62% Faster

If you’ve been considering getting Invisalign to correct misaligned teeth due to natural causes, age related movement or periodontal disease in order to achieve the perfect smile you dream of having, I’ve got great news for you. No matter what condition you are desiring to correct, be it simple or complex, you can achieve your beautiful smile with Invisalign or braces up to 62% faster than usual. Abnormal alignment of the teeth and jaws is very common and regular braces have made it possible, and Invisalign has made it so much easier, for people of every age to make the corrections that make it possible to love their smiles. And now, there’s a technique that speeds up the entire process.

The MOPs Effect

For the past few years, I have been using, with great success, what is known as The MOPs Effect, which stands for Micro Osteo Perforation under the brand name of Propel®. It is a university developed and FDA cleared technique that is used to accelerate the rate of orthodontic tooth movement in conjunction with braces and/or Invisalign. Micro means extremely small. Osteo relates to the bones. And perforation relates to a small hole made by boring or piercing.

For instance, if an Invisalign treatment would normally take up to a full year, with The MOPs Effect, you can cut that time in half, maybe even more.  This is possible by boring microscopically small dimples along the gum line causing micro-fractures within the bone that in turn accelerate the body’s ability to break down and subsequently rebuild bone. This allows the teeth to move more quickly thus cutting down the time required for realignment.

Quick And Pain-free

The MOPs Effect is performed in-office within a matter of minutes with only topical anesthetic required. There is little to no recovery time as the process is virtually pain-free. This process is more predictable than just regular braces and Invisalign. You’ll spend less time in the orthodontic chair and you’ll have something to smile about all the time at the end of your treatment period.

Faster Is Better

When it comes to realigning teeth, there is no question that faster is better. The MOPs Effect is the most predictable method now available in conjunction with either regular braces or Invisalign. Are you ready to smile like you’ve never smiled before? If you are, give my office a call and let’s set up a consultation to see how quickly we can give you something to smile about.

Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of SmileCreator Of Naples And Best-selling Co-author Writes About The Growing Understanding Of Gum Disease As An Indicator Of Heart Disease Risk.

Naples dentist

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the SmileCreator of Naples, informs his readers about a very specific enzyme present in the gums that is specifically becoming recognized as a very strong indicator of a high risk of heart disease.

Naples, FL, November 16, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new blog on his website entitled, “Your Gums And Your Heart… The Link Is Intensifying!” Dr. Hernandez talks about the link between one enzyme found in the oral cavity that is becoming recognized as an indicator of heart disease.

Dr. Hernandez writes, “The aging population is aware of heart disease and attribute this to getting older. But,” he asks, “is it really part of the aging process?” He thinks not, saying, “Studies show that age and heart disease are not related and actually is improved with science.” He goes on to add, “The medical research establishment is very busy at work finding ways to keep us alive longer and healthier.”

As Dr. Hernandez points out, “Researchers are finding new markers to identify risk of coronary artery disease early on and when monitored properly can help avoid these. One of these receiving much attention is “Myeloperoxidase” (MPO).” According to Dr. Hernandez, “This is a well-known enzyme found in the blood and used as a marker for inflammation.” He suggests readers, “Follow this link for a very enlightening research article on this exciting enzyme and what it is telling us about our heart future. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/mi/2008/135625/

Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of Smilecreator Of Naples Discusses The Cause Of Cardiovascular Disease In More Than 50% Of All Heart Attacks.

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the Smilecreator of Naples, reveals that a biological dentist can discover unknown, underlying health issues that could help his readers strengthen their immune systems during this pandemic.

Naples, FL, July 28, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new article on his website entitled, “It’s Time To Entrust Your Heart Health To Your Dentist.” Dr. Hernandez reveals how a simple DNA test could be lifesaving.

Dr. Hernandez states, “Clearly, you would not go to a cardiologist to find out what’s wrong if you have a toothache.” He goes on to add, “But, if your dentist is a biological dentist who employs the BaleDoneen method, you definitely would and should go to your dentist to find out if you have or are at high risk of having cardiovascular disease. This dentist could also tell you if you are at risk for a stroke, dementia or diabetes.”

As Dr. Hernandez points out, “The mouth is the gateway to the entire body. And more and more it is becoming understood that high risk periodontal pathogens cause heart disease.” He emphasizes, “Your dentist is the only medical professional that can tell you if you have the high-risk pathogens responsible for the number one cause of death and disability.”

According to Dr. Hernandez, “In fact, periodontal disease may be an underlying and potentially treatable cause of about 50% of all heart attacks.”

“As a biological dental practice,” writes Dr. Hernandez, “we employ and follow the BaleDoneen Method to incorporate the study and prevention of the link between heart disease, strokes and gum disease.  Many silent, underlying diseases of the mouth, like old failing root canals, have been proven to contribute to elevated chances of having a severe stroke or heart disease.”

Dr. Hernandez asserts that, “Cardiovascular incidents are preventable with proper care and attention to the underlying causes such as diet and other forms that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. We use DNA testing to discover if you have the high-risk periodontal pathogens that indicate a risk for the diseases that are at the top of the list for causing death.”

Dr. Hernandez points out that, “What most people do not know is that there are roughly 60,000 miles of arteries through which blood flows throughout the entire human body. The heart is the muscle that pumps the blood, but the arteries are the delivery system. So,” he adds, “having a heart attack or a stroke is not just about blockage in the main arteries leading to the heart or the brain. There could be blockage anywhere in those 60,000 miles.”

Oral Health Can Decline Significantly When Teeth Are Not Removed Properly

Most of us are born with 20 primary or baby teeth and we typically grow into adults with 32 permanent teeth. Some people may lose a tooth or two for some reason during the lifetime journey. The major reasons why teeth are lost is due to trauma and disease. People fall, get into accidents, and some injure themselves playing sports. Sometimes periodontal gum disease causes tooth loss, as can dental decay.  When teeth have to be removed due to periodontal disease or decay, how the removal process is handled will determine the remaining foundation of health well into the future.

For example; if a tooth is removed using excessive force or aggressive procedures, the surrounding bone will be damaged and suffer. Very often this results in requiring a bone graft procedure. Bone grafting is the reconstruction of bone and the architecture of the bony structure. However, a bone graft is not always required when teeth are lost or removed.

After a tooth is lost, be it to accident or disease, the way the area is cleaned and treated is equally important to the overall long-term health of the mouth. Especially in the case of a tooth lost to gum disease, after the tooth is removed, the bony walls are still intact and will need to be cleansed of all debris, infected materials and remaining periodontal ligaments. This cleansing process must be done carefully and thoroughly by hand using a variety of instruments. It’s also important to finish up with antibiotics and rinses used to further wash out this tissue and cleanse the bony surface adequately.

If the removal and the important cleansing process is not completed properly, then a cavitation can form. A cavitation is a hole in the bone that has not healed in properly. It is an area of dead bone which will become infected and fester. This creates an unhealthy environment and further adds to the declining health of the mouth, teeth and gums.

If you’ve recently lost a tooth or need to have one removed, it’s important that it be done by a dental professional experienced in proper removal and the very important follow-up cleansing procedure. Your long-term oral health depends on how this procedure is done.

Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of SmileCreator Of Naples And Best-selling Co-author Suggests An Important Frequent Habit To Help Protect Against COVID19.

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the SmileCreator of Naples, writes about the important role a healthy mouth health plays in disease prevention and proposes that oral health is particularly relevant in light of the current worldwide pandemic.

Naples, FL, April 21, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new blog on his website entitled, “How Excellent Oral Health Can Help You Fight Off Viruses,” in which Dr. Hernandez elaborates on important habits to include during the pandemic.

Dr. Hernandez writes, “We are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic like humanity has never experienced before.” He continues adding, “COVID19 is in the spotlight and we must take the suggested behaviors about social distancing, handwashing and keeping hands away from the face seriously. However,” he states, “there are other habits that are not being talked about that can also make a big difference in protecting you and your loved ones from the virus.”

“As a dentist,” says Dr. Hernandez, “the more I thought about this situation, the more I became fixated on the role a healthy mouth can have in this global health challenge.” According to Dr. Hernandez, “The health of the teeth and gums are major factors to be considered in the positive or negative outcome of the disease transmission process. If teeth and gums are well maintained and healthy, you’ll have a much better chance of not trapping harmful bacteria or viruses.” He goes on to say, “However, when teeth have cracks, pits and faulty old dental work, and when gums are inflamed due to periodontal disease, then you are at a much higher risk of having contaminants stay in those crevices, and for longer periods of time.”

How Excellent Oral Health Can Help You Fight Off Viruses

We are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic like humanity has never experienced before. COVID19 is in the spotlight and we must take the suggested behaviors about social distancing, handwashing and keeping hands away from the face seriously. However, there are other habits that are not being talked about that can also make a big difference in protecting you and your loved ones from the virus.

As a dentist, the more I thought about this situation, the more I became fixated on the role a healthy mouth can have in this global health challenge. The health of the teeth and gums are major factors to be considered in the positive or negative outcome of the disease transmission process. If teeth and gums are well maintained and healthy, you’ll have a much better chance of not trapping harmful bacteria or viruses. However, when teeth have cracks, pits and faulty old dental work, and when gums are inflamed due to periodontal disease, then you are at a much higher risk of having contaminants stay in those crevices, and for longer periods of time.

Flossing and brushing the teeth after every single eating event is every bit as important as wearing a mask and gloves out in public. In my opinion, these habits should be included in the recommendations from the CDC and other leading authorities. They need to become automatic in our everyday lives.

Simply washing your hands properly and often and sanitizing the groceries and other products you bring into your home is helpful in light of what we now know. Being aware of how long the COVID19 virus stays communicable on certain surfaces like doorknobs, tabletops, grocery bags and so on is important. But think about the environment in your mouth.

To find out about other behaviors you can incorporate into your daily life to help keep your oral cavity (the inside of your mouth) in tip top condition, contact my office today. If you are concerned that your mouth health may be affecting your overall health and would like a complimentary examination, give us a call at (239)564-3100.

In the meantime, please stay well, stay safe and we will all get through this together.

Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of Smilecreator Of Naples Writes About The Importance Of Vitamin D In Oral Health.

Naples dentist

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the Smilecreator of Naples, writes about Vitamin D, the importance it plays in oral health and includes how to get vitamin D from the sun, dietary and supplemental sources.

Naples, FL, March 31, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new article on his website entitled, “The Role Vitamin D Plays In Your Dental Health,” in which Dr. Hernandez emphasizes how integral this single vitamin is to oral health.

As Dr. Hernandez points out, “All people who reside in Florida have a fairly constant source of Vitamin D: the wonderful sunshine!” He continues adding, “If you spend as few as 15 minutes in the sun each day, perhaps on an early morning or evening walk, just as the sun is coming up or going down, you can fulfill your daily requirement of this vitamin that is so integral to bone and dental health.” He adds, “And, a diet rich in seafood, which is also abundant in Florida, is another way to keep your Vitamin D requirements fulfilled.”

“Vitamin D is essential in helping the body absorb calcium,” says Dr. Hernandez. He continues adding, “Of course there are people around the world who don’t love being out in the sun. Fortunately there are dietary sources for getting Vitamin D, which include leafy greens, fatty fish like salmon and tuna, and foods that are fortified with Vitamin D. And, of course, there are vitamin supplements that can be taken.”

Dr. Hernandez states, “We want to help you combat the Coronavirus fears. During the month of March, all new patients who visit us for their exam cleaning and Oral DNA check, will receive a FREE 30-day supply of our branded Vitamin D3 supplement to boost your health and immune system.*s”

Continuing to elaborate on Vitamin D, Dr. Hernandez writes, “This vitamin deficiency typically shows up as osteoporosis as well as periodontal disease and has a multitude of symptoms. As a dentist, I have seen the damaging results of Vitamin D deficiency up close.” According to Dr. Hernandez, “In the dental profession, it is well known that Vitamin D deficiency can increase the risk of oral infections and periodontal disease. Vitamin D is important in the body’s immune response and it has been known to suppress the destructive effects of chronic periodontitis.” He elaborates, “What this means is that if one patient has periodontitis and has adequate levels of vitamin D, the disease will not be as damaging as it would be in a patient that is chronically deficient in the vitamin.”
