Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of SmileCreator Of Naples And Best-selling Co-author Talk About The Important Role Vitamin D Plays In Oral Health And Immunity.

Naples dentist

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the SmileCreator of Naples, rates Vitamin D as one of the most important elements in promoting excellent oral health and helping strengthen the immune system.

Naples, FL, February 21, 2021: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new blog on his website entitled, “Smile: Vitamin D Gets An A+ For Its Role In Oral Health And Immune System Health.” Dr. Hernandez has been promoting the health benefits of Vitamin D throughout his years of practice and emphasizes its importance during the pandemic.

Dr. Hernandez states, “The more we learn about the role Vitamin D plays in our health, the more we like it. First of all,” he explains, “it’s a vitamin we get from being out in the sunshine.” Then he poses, “Who doesn’t love a beautiful sunny day?”  As Dr. Hernandez explains, “Vitamin D is made from cholesterol in the skin when exposed to sunlight. And don’t be fooled into thinking if you work next to a window that you’re getting your daily dose. It doesn’t work that way. You have to get out in the sun and expose as much skin as you can to the sunlight.”

According to Dr. Hernandez, “Evidence has demonstrated that vitamin D deficiency may place subjects at risk for not only low mineral bone density/osteoporosis and osteopenia but also infectious and chronic inflammatory diseases. Both of those results are significant in terms of oral health and in the ability to fight off infections like COVID-19 and other viruses.”

The Year The World Stood Still

Back in 1951 there was a movie called The Day The Earth Stood Still. Science fiction back in the 50’s considered the earth coming to a standstill for one day as a very out-there idea. But here we are in 2020 and the world came to a complete standstill not just for a day but for months.

Even when shelter-in-place orders were first issued, I have to admit, I thought it might last for a few days or a week at most. Nearly a full year later we are still experiencing massive unemployment, business shutdowns, social distancing, the quarantining, the travel moratorium and people are still getting the COVID-19 virus.

I also admit, I too am getting a bit weary.  I will not however, let the weariness win. I am grateful that I am still in business and that my patients are doing their very best to keep up with their oral health check-ups and procedures. On an even brighter note, life continues to unfold. There are new babies being born, lovers getting married even though they can’t have the big splashy weddings. I see closeness being born amid families who once were too busy for each other. We have an opportunity to get reacquainted with our spouses, our children, our dearest friends. We have been forced to slow down.

Yes, everything came to a screeching halt for a while. But we are continuing to move forward albeit more slowly. I think I might want to embrace the slower pace and make that part of my daily life instead of trying to keep pace with the crazy pace the digital world would have us embrace.

Here’s to the New Year unfolding perfectly for each and everyone.

Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of SmileCreator Of Naples And Best-selling Co-author Writes About The Growing Understanding Of Gum Disease As An Indicator Of Heart Disease Risk.

Naples dentist

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the SmileCreator of Naples, informs his readers about a very specific enzyme present in the gums that is specifically becoming recognized as a very strong indicator of a high risk of heart disease.

Naples, FL, November 16, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new blog on his website entitled, “Your Gums And Your Heart… The Link Is Intensifying!” Dr. Hernandez talks about the link between one enzyme found in the oral cavity that is becoming recognized as an indicator of heart disease.

Dr. Hernandez writes, “The aging population is aware of heart disease and attribute this to getting older. But,” he asks, “is it really part of the aging process?” He thinks not, saying, “Studies show that age and heart disease are not related and actually is improved with science.” He goes on to add, “The medical research establishment is very busy at work finding ways to keep us alive longer and healthier.”

As Dr. Hernandez points out, “Researchers are finding new markers to identify risk of coronary artery disease early on and when monitored properly can help avoid these. One of these receiving much attention is “Myeloperoxidase” (MPO).” According to Dr. Hernandez, “This is a well-known enzyme found in the blood and used as a marker for inflammation.” He suggests readers, “Follow this link for a very enlightening research article on this exciting enzyme and what it is telling us about our heart future. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/mi/2008/135625/

Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of Smilecreator Of Naples Reviews The Role Oral Health Plays Overall Health.

Naples dentist

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the Smilecreator of Naples, talks about the ever growing understanding between the relationship of oral health and overall health and how biological dentists are being sought more than ever because of this relationship.

Naples, FL, October 05, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new article on his website entitled, “Dentistry That Appreciates And Considers Whole Body Health. Dr. Hernandez suggests that more biological dentists will be available in the future as the role of oral health and overall health are better understood.

Dr. Hernandez states, “Oral health is becoming more and more important in the role of overall health.” He adds, “Research points to oral health as an indicator of the most life-threatening diseases of our time. Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental slowness and autism, for example, are just some of the conditions that can be indicated based on the bacteria found in the mouth.”

According to Dr. Hernandez, “As a result of the increased awareness of the relationship of oral health to overall health, more and more people are turning to the services of biological dentists. Biological dentistry combines the very best elements of traditional dentistry with a deep appreciation for teeth and oral health in relationship to the rest of the body.”

“As a biological dentist,” Dr. Hernandez writes, “I work in tandem with many of my patients cardiologists, internists and other specialists. My greatest desire and mission is to help my patients understand the relationship of oral health to the health of their vital organs.” He elaborates, “I do everything I can to help my patients prevent periodontal disease which is a key indicator of other potential troubles lurking within the body, through education and biological testing of oral bacteria. When I can help my patients keep their oral cavity healthy, very often other health issues follow suit.”

Isolation Is Torturous And Nothing To Smile About

Throughout the course of this COVID-19 pandemic, with mandated shelter-in-place orders during which my dental practice was shut down, I’ve been thinking about the effect isolation has on us humans. I see the effects of self-isolation in my practice all too frequently. It made me think about how isolation is often used as a form of torture. In war and in prison, inmates are put into isolation in order to make them comply, behave or give up some bit of information.

After so many months of social distancing and staying away from groups of people, I too have begun to feel the unpleasant effects. Many people I know are feeling lethargic and depressed. We humans need interaction. We need hugs and handshakes. We need to move around and express ourselves joyfully and freely.

Crooked Teeth, Broken Teeth, Missing Teeth Cause People To Self-Isolate

In my practice I have come to recognize the effects of isolation on patients who have self-isolated, sometimes for years, due to the condition of their teeth. For anyone with good teeth, this may be difficult to comprehend. However, there are many people who suffer as a result of having teeth that for whatever reason are not simply less than ideal but may have been the source of teasing or bullying, lost as a result of illness or accidents. There are many reasons. How one got the teeth in the condition that would cause them to self-isolate is not the issue. Returning them to a state of joyful living and self-confidence is my focus.

Here’s To A Healthy Mouth That Will Keep You Smiling And  Engaged In Life

Helping my patients achieve and maintain the greatest degree of oral health possible is my passion. Giving my patients a beautiful smile along with something to smile about due to the exceptional patient care I provide is my mission. Our mouths are the entryway to every organ in our bodies. Having a healthy oral cavity and having teeth that function to chew food thoroughly and enjoyably is something every person deserves. Cutting oneself off from a healthy social life due to unattractive teeth is a form of torture that I would like to help bring to an end for those who are suffering.

Crowns, Bridges, Implants, And Biological Services

People from all walks of life and for many hundreds of years have always found ways to fix broken teeth. And, of course over the centuries the techniques have improved. The variety of contemporary dental techniques and procedures can only be described as miraculous when you see the end results.

I employ the latest, most advanced techniques and procedures in my dental practice, including biological services that identify tendencies toward other life-threatening conditions such as stroke, heart disease and diabetes. In this way, I help my patients be able to smile with confidence once again and get out and enjoy their lives to the fullest.

From Isolation To Exhilaration

Most people do not have “perfect teeth.” Whether you sucked your thumb as child or had sports injuries or are prone to periodontal diseases, the condition of your teeth and mouth may be preventing you from enjoying life as fully as you would like. You teeth can be restored, saved, re-aligned and your oral health can be improved.

Do not isolate yourself unnecessarily. We’ve all learned through this pandemic the importance of human interaction. We practice all of the new safety protocols mandated for dental professionals and have always been meticulous in our safety procedures. Give us a call and let us help get you engaged in life again.

Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of Smilecreator Of Naples Discusses The Cause Of Cardiovascular Disease In More Than 50% Of All Heart Attacks.

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the Smilecreator of Naples, reveals that a biological dentist can discover unknown, underlying health issues that could help his readers strengthen their immune systems during this pandemic.

Naples, FL, July 28, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new article on his website entitled, “It’s Time To Entrust Your Heart Health To Your Dentist.” Dr. Hernandez reveals how a simple DNA test could be lifesaving.

Dr. Hernandez states, “Clearly, you would not go to a cardiologist to find out what’s wrong if you have a toothache.” He goes on to add, “But, if your dentist is a biological dentist who employs the BaleDoneen method, you definitely would and should go to your dentist to find out if you have or are at high risk of having cardiovascular disease. This dentist could also tell you if you are at risk for a stroke, dementia or diabetes.”

As Dr. Hernandez points out, “The mouth is the gateway to the entire body. And more and more it is becoming understood that high risk periodontal pathogens cause heart disease.” He emphasizes, “Your dentist is the only medical professional that can tell you if you have the high-risk pathogens responsible for the number one cause of death and disability.”

According to Dr. Hernandez, “In fact, periodontal disease may be an underlying and potentially treatable cause of about 50% of all heart attacks.”

“As a biological dental practice,” writes Dr. Hernandez, “we employ and follow the BaleDoneen Method to incorporate the study and prevention of the link between heart disease, strokes and gum disease.  Many silent, underlying diseases of the mouth, like old failing root canals, have been proven to contribute to elevated chances of having a severe stroke or heart disease.”

Dr. Hernandez asserts that, “Cardiovascular incidents are preventable with proper care and attention to the underlying causes such as diet and other forms that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. We use DNA testing to discover if you have the high-risk periodontal pathogens that indicate a risk for the diseases that are at the top of the list for causing death.”

Dr. Hernandez points out that, “What most people do not know is that there are roughly 60,000 miles of arteries through which blood flows throughout the entire human body. The heart is the muscle that pumps the blood, but the arteries are the delivery system. So,” he adds, “having a heart attack or a stroke is not just about blockage in the main arteries leading to the heart or the brain. There could be blockage anywhere in those 60,000 miles.”

Your Mouth is The Gateway To Your Health Especially During This Pandemic

If you have been following me for any length of time, you know that one of the most frequent topics that I talk, write and educate about is the importance of oral health to overall health and wellbeing. Our oral health plays an even more integral role in our wellbeing now as we are dealing with the COVID-19 virus.

Shelter-at-home restrictions have been eased quite a bit. For those of us in the dental profession, for several months we only treated emergencies. Now that we are back in our offices, I want to remind you that keeping your previously scheduled dental appointment or scheduling a maintenance visit is safe and important to keeping your resistance to COVID strong.

Let me assure you, if there is any doubt in your mind that dental offices in general are hyper-sensitive about cleanliness and the protection of patients and employees. We have worn masks and gloves for years and continue to improve protocols in the equipment that is used in our practices. We are taking many new precautions to protect our patients and ourselves from exposure to COVID-19 as issued by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in light of COVID-19. Rest assured, you will be safe at our dental offices

Although the new safety procedures may make your office visit feel different, taking excellent care of your teeth and gums remains one of the best ways to protect your overall health — and reduce your risk for heart attacks, strokes, dementia and other life-threatening conditions.

Remember, COVID-19 is more threatening to people who have those underlying health conditions. So you want to do everything you can to make sure you are as healthy as can be. And you want to stay that way!

Nilo A. Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, Owner of Smilecreator Of Naples Urges Readers To Maintain Their Maintenance Dental Appointments For Overall Health.

Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, DICOI, best-selling co-author of the book, The Will To Win, with Brian Tracy, and owner of the Smilecreator of Naples, reminds readers how stress affects the health of the mouth and encourages keeping appointments and the exploration of holistic dentistry.

Naples, FL, June 30, 2020: Owner and CEO of Smilecreator of Naples, Dr. Nilo Hernandez, Jr., DDS, has posted a new article on his website entitled, “Stay Calm And Keep Your Mouth Health,” in which Dr. Hernandez talks about how integral oral health is to overall health.

Dr. Hernandez writes, “Don’t let Covid-19 disrupt your healthy dental care routine.” He continues adding, “While all dental offices were shut down for a couple of months, our doors are now open.” He emphasizes, “Dental offices have always been meticulously careful and pristinely clean. We have been wearing masks for at least 20 years and have always worn gloves.”

“If you’ve had to postpone a regular cleaning due to the pandemic,” says Dr. Hernandez, “you may want to make sure you get one back on the schedule as soon as possible. The added stress that the unknown causes can create weaknesses in the mouth and could cause problems.” He adds, “Do not slack on your home oral health care. Be more diligent than ever.”

Dr. Hernandez also encourages, “Do your best to stay calm. Incorporating meditation or yoga or a daily walk into your routine can be very helpful. Know that, “this too shall pass.” Of course it isn’t passing as quickly as we’d all like, but it will pass eventually.”

According to Dr. Hernandez it is important that, “If you have a dental emergency, take care of it immediately. The mouth is the gateway to the entire body and an abscessed tooth, if not treated, can lead to serious problems. Gingivitis can lead to heart disease and strokes.”
